Green Manufacturing: Promos Technology Environmental Practices in the Semiconductor Industry

In the context of accelerating global carbon neutrality goals, the semiconductor industry, as a key basic industry with high energy consumption and high emissions, is facing unprecedented pressure for green transformation. As a leading provider of semiconductor test equipment and solutions in China, Promos Technology Co., Ltd. (Pross Technology) has systematically promoted the green manufacturing strategy in recent years, deeply integrating the concept of sustainable development into the whole life cycle of R & D, production, supply chain and operation, and has become a benchmark enterprise of green practice in the field of local semiconductor equipment.

According to the company's 2023 ESG report, Promos Technology has fully completed the optimization and upgrading of the energy structure of its headquarters in Suzhou manufacturing base: 100 percent of the production power is covered by the green power purchase agreement (PPA), and distributed photovoltaic systems are deployed, with an annual power generation of 1.2GWh; At the same time, the intelligent energy management system (EMS) is introduced to realize real-time energy consumption monitoring and dynamic optimization at the production line level. In 2023, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit output value decreased by 18.7 year on year. In the process link, the company's self-developed low-power ATE (automatic test equipment) platform -- P-Test Pro series, compared with the previous generation of products, the power consumption of the whole machine is reduced by 32%, standby power consumption is less than 5W, significantly reducing the hidden energy consumption in the test process.

In terms of material and waste management, Promos Technology strictly implements IPC-1752A standards, conducts compliance screening of hazardous substances for all 237 key components, and completely eliminates lead-containing solder and halogen flame retardants. Its SMT workshop achieved a solder paste recovery rate of 99.2, a metal recovery rate of 96.5 after closed-loop treatment of waste acid solution, and a 41% decrease in hazardous waste production within three years. What is more noteworthy is that the company, together with the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has jointly built a "Green Packaging and Testing Joint Laboratory", focusing on the development of new carbon reduction processes such as low-temperature bonding and dry cleaning. At present, it has applied for 14 patents related to green manufacturing.

supply chain collaboration is an important extension of Promos green manufacturing. The company launched the' Green Chain Partnership Program' in early 2024, requiring 100 per cent of TOP50 suppliers to pass ISO 14001 certification and providing free carbon inventory training and energy efficiency diagnosis services to small and medium-sized suppliers. As of June 2024, 83 core suppliers have completed green upgrade assessments, with an average reduction potential of 12.3 per cent. In addition, Promos Technology has been selected into the "Green Manufacturing List" of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for two consecutive years, and its Suzhou factory has been appraised as "National Green Factory", and as the only equipment manufacturer's representative, it has participated in the formulation of the group standard of "Green Factory Evaluation Guidelines for Semiconductor Industry.

'Green is not cost, but the core dimension of next-generation technology competitiveness. Lin Zheming, CEO of Promos Technology, said, 'We are implanting green genes into the bottom layer of the design of every device-from renewable material structural parts, modular and easy-to-disassemble design, to embedded carbon footprint tracking chips, so that every factory device has a' green passport'. 'In the next three years, the company plans to increase the proportion of green research and development investment to 25% of the total research and development funds, and promote all production bases to achieve zero carbon operation by 2026.
